The Methodist Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Igbobini has commended the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Rotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, for taking a bold step in addressing the current state of insecurity in the State. He made these public remarks during the Presentation of the Seventh Diocesan Lay-President of Igbobini Diocese, Evang. Sunday Adegoke (Auditor-General of Ondo State) on Sunday, 24th January 2021, at Methodist Cathedral, Okitipupa, Ondo State. According to him, the State Government’s decision and directive that forbids the Fulani herdsmen activities in the government reserved forestry should be seen as a security strategy.
Although this has generated several reactions from different quarters across the country, the high spate of kidnappings, killings and robbery necessitated the order by holding the bull by the horns.
Likewise, on pensioners’ issue, Archbishop Fafeyiwa challenged the State’s administration to find a lasting solution to non-payment of gratuity and pension allowances. He passionately opined that the level of suffering of the government retirees in the state is quite appalling. He implored the State government stakeholders at the event to use their good offices in holding briefs with the Executive Governor of the State on this matter.
While speaking on the theme of his sermon: A Call to serve , with elucidation and illustration, he pointed out that there are two types of callings. The general and individual callings. The individual calling is unique, just as everyone is unique. However, the connectivity between the two is service. This demands one’s talents, treasures and time.
Archbishop Fafeyiwa aptly described the new Lay-President, Evang. Sunday Omoniyi Adegoke as a gentleman, humble and dutiful in service to God and government (humanity). He added that Evang. Sunday Adegoke was divinely chosen through fervent prayers. He encouraged him not relent on his past efforts and good records.
The service was well attended by an array of Clergymen, Royal Fathers, Permanent Sectaries, Top Government Officials, Family Members, Friends, Members of the Press, and a host others.
