40TH ANNUAL SYNOD OF THE DIOCESE OF IGBOBINI HELD AT WESLEY METHODIST CHURCH, ODE-AYE FROM APRIL 26, TO APRIL 29, 2023
COMMUNIQUE
The 40th Annual Synod of the Diocese of Igbobini was held at Wesley Methodist Church Ode-Aye, Ode-Aye Circuit with the theme “Contending for the Faith” (Jude 1:3). The Synod was presided over by His Grace, the Most Rev’d. Dr. Olugbenga O.C. Fafeyiwa the Archbishop and Bishop of Igbobini respectively. Also present were the Diocesan Lay President Evang. Sunday O. Adegoke, Synod secretary V. Rev’d O.G. Soniran, Sir. Barr. Samuel Adetuyi Legal Adviser 1, Barr. Olajide Akinsola Legal Adviser II, Pastor Dr. Peter Akinyelure – Okitipupa LG CAN Chairman and Mr. Chris Babalola Oyesannmi heavily represented by Princess Oyin Ijaghare.
- Synod congratulates the new Prelate of Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence Dr. Oliver Ali Aba who assumed Office on December 01, 2022. While thanking God for the smooth and successful transition of Leadership. Synod earnestly prayed God to endow the Prelate with wisdom, knowledge and courage to consolidate holistically on the four-point agenda of his predecessor- to build Methodist Church Nigeria Spiritually, numerically, financially and infrastructurally.
- The Synod encourages the Body of Christ all over the world to contend for the faith by standing against all forms of heretical teachings and exploitation of the people through devilish manipulations in the name of worship.
- The Synod commends governments at all levels in the country to strive towards the unity of the country through good governance. However, the synod condemns the rise in the level of killings, kidnapping, and other vices and therefore calls on government to take urgent steps to stem the tide.
- The Synod frowns at the level of infrastructural decay all over the country, and therefore urges all tiers of government, to urgently put efforts in place to correct this anomaly.
- The Synod decries the high rate of poverty, inflation and unemployment. We urge government to take urgent concerted efforts revert this ugly trend.
- Synod admonishes youths to engage in skills acquisition in order to get themselves gainfully engaged in small and medium scale enterprises.
- The Synod observe with concerns the sudden increase in socio –political and religious intolerance in the country. We urge government to ensure that all Nigerians live in harmony.
- On the Presidential and National Assembly election that took place in February 25, 2023, Synod frowned at the buying of votes and engagement of youths as political thugs. We call on INEC and all law enforcement agencies to ensure that laws against these ills are properly enforced in future elections.
- The Synod admonished all aggrieved political players against the outcome of the elections should seek redress in the law courts rather than resorting to self help. The Synod however enjoins the judiciary to be disperse justice without fear or favour.
- Considering the poor and embarrassing level of infrastructure in the country, the Synod appeals to governments at all levels to urgently put machinery in motion to fix and improve on the provision of basic social amenities nationwide.
- Synod encourages all Nigerians to keep praying for the peace and progress of their country.
